being the mc :: my friends’ canmore wedding

You may be wondering where I’ve been this last little while! Well – I’ve been in Canmore, Alberta, being the MC for my dear friends Chelsea + Eoin’s wedding. To all you MCs out there – I so appreciate all the work you put in; it is a big big job!

With that, I leave you with a couple of snaps from this weekend, of the happy couple, of me (at the mic) being the mc, and of my girls + our newest addition, Eoin.

Lots more coming up on the blog, including a couple of weddings, a romantic rockie mountains shoot and a circus school shoot!

Nikon FM :: My “Pocket Camera”

Earlier this week, Sarah Rhoads (one of my current photography idols) wrote a blog post about her “pocket camera“. Basically, a small camera that goes where she goes. Her post was just the encouragement I needed to get off my butt and get shopping to get my own day-to-day camera.

Today at the St. Lawrence Sunday Antiques Market I found it. It’s an early-model Nikon FM.  It’s probably almost 35, but has excellent reviews.  The best part, the guys at the market gave me a steal of a deal. ($99 for everything you see in the image. Whoa.)

Isn’t she a beaut?

Sarah has four (what I will call) “rules” for a pocket camera.

  1. Light and easy to pop into a small purse. {The Nikon FM is a teensy bit heavy, but easily fits into my small purse. Bingo.}
  2. Challenges you. {Easy. It’s film. And fully manual.}
  3. Nondescript and doesn’t draw attention. {Well, it is an SLR. And vintage-looking. But it’s pretty small. I’ll let you know how this goes.} and,
  4. Use it. {This one is all on me.}.

So, here we go. Wish me luck!

kristen holly - What a great idea!!! I have an old 35mm, totally operational. I should definitely take it out more often. Definitely put up some of your pictures!!

Kyle - I NEED a pocket camera. ASAP.

Allison - Thanks guys! I’m actually pretty nervous about the first two rolls (one colour, one black and white)! Manual exposure is one thing, but manual focus is throwing me for a loop!!

Edie :: South of France Session

Edie is smoking. Seriously – she reminds me of Nefertiti in some of these images. As for our friends, well – they think she reminds them of the girl in The Ring (hence the series of images near then end). In case you couldn’t tell, we had an incredible amount of fun in our South of France (that was made of magic, by the way, check out those vineyard images…). The best part of the session was our somewhat friendly neighbourhood French man who asked for an image of his own. It took us awhile to stop giggling after that one.

I love these one-on-one photo shoots and they make for some amazing images, I think everyone needs one of these!

Kyle - Gorgeousness! The black and white (#5) is my fave!

Andi of My Beautiful Adventures - These are GORGEOUS!!!

Christine - Gorgeous images and what an incredible location!! Love :)
